Dr Zahier Ebrahim is passionate about neurosurgery and its ability to treat patients with some of the most challenging and debilitating conditions.

In pursuit of his passion he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

“Neurosurgery, and cranial surgery in particular, is a tremendous responsibility. If there was a seat of the soul, where else would it be but the brain? Patients entrust me with operating on this, the most eloquent part of their body. It’s an honour and responsibility that motivates me every day,”

... he says.

Cape Town born and bred, Dr Ebrahim cites a devoutly religious upbringing and the loss of a brother at a young age as factors that contributed to his decision to pursue a career in medicine. He completed the memorization of the Quran in 2001 and  received his MBChB from University of Cape Town in 2007 and it was during his internship that Dr. Ebrahim developed a keen interest in neurosurgery.

Following community service, he took up a Medical Officer post in the department of Neurosurgery at Groote Schuur Hospital in 2011. In 2012, he moved to Tygerberg Hospital to start his Neurosurgery registrar programme. Dr Ebrahim holds a Fellowship of the College of Neurosurgeons of South Africa, and has graduated with a Masters in Medicine in Neurosurgery from the University of Stellenbosch.

Married to a dietician, Dr Ebrahim was the first in his family to pursue a career in health care, but certainly not the last. Subsequently his one sister is a speech therapist, another a physiotherapist and his brother is a doctor. In his rare free time, he follows cricket and UK Premier League soccer, supporting Manchester United. Dr Ebrahim has established his private practice at Mediclinic Milnerton in Cape Town.
