ABOUT
Listed here below are the services which Dr de Villiers provides:
- Thyroid conditions such as thyroid nodules; these are lumps filled with fluid in your thyroid, which are found by your doctor in a routine medical exam. If the thyroid is benign, it is treated through either surgery or thyroid suppression hormone therapy. If the thyroid is cancerous, it is treated either through surgery or alcohol ablation.
- Diabetes:
- Gestational diabetes; develops during pregnancy and causes high blood sugar which may affect your baby’s health. This is treated through you monitoring your blood sugar, eating a healthy diet, exercising and medication such as injectable insulin.
- Diabetes mellitus; occurs when there are excess amounts of sugar in your blood. The treatment methods for diabetes mellitus are similar to that of gestational diabetes. The difference is that in diabetes mellitus, you may be treated via a pancreas transplant, bariatric surgery or oral medications.
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS); this is a hormone disorder of which women of reproductive age are at high risk of having. Treatment is focused on treating individual conditions such as infertility, hirsutism, acne or obesity. Dr de Villiers might recommend that you lose weight; he might recommend combination birth control pills or progestin therapy to help regulate your menstrual cycle.
- Investigation of secondary causes of hypertension; Dr de Villiers might administer the following tests (to make a diagnosis of secondary causes of hypertension): blood pressure reading using an inflatable cuff, blood test, urine test, ultrasound of kidneys and an electrocardiogram.
- Evaluation of obesity; this evaluation is done through examination of health history, general physical exam, calculating BMI, checking for other health problems and blood tests.
- Cardiovascular risk factor assessment; a cardiovascular exam is done in this assessment. This exam involves observation, palpation and auscultation.
